January 11, 1912

An effort is being made to form a lodge of Oddfellows for the district of Cochrane.  We would be pleased to hear from those interested in the project.

Train wreck

An east-bound train, that passed through about 8 a.m. on Thursday narrowly escaped a bad accident, through a split rail.  The two hind coaches were derailed, but no one was hurt.

New Bowling Alleys

Another criterion of the optimism prevailing in Cochrane is the building of bowling alleys, costing thousands of dollars, by Monsieur M. de Repentigny, a gentleman more familiarly known as "Mose".

Already the corner stone has been laid and construction has begun, under the supervision of S. Chester.  At present it looks like a Noah's ark, but the builder is certain it will eventually grow into a bowling alley, and what is more, it will be ready for the beginning of April.

By that time hockey will be over, and it is hoped to be able to form a league of teams raised by ranchers, cowboys, merchants, clerks, stonecutters, miners.

The alleys, which will be of regulation length have been ordered, and will be here in a few days.
