Roy Genung of Elbow, Saskatchewan and I, Bev Bullerwell of Cut Knife, Saskatchewan were married July 2, 1966. We both grew up in rural farm settings in our respective communities. Roy operated a service station in Elbow and I was a teacher at Elbow and Lashburn, Saskatchewan prior to our marriage, at which time we moved to Calgary.
We resided in Calgary from July 1966 until February 1976. Roy worked as service manager for a company specializing in Melroe Bobcat skid teer loaders. We lived in the new Calgary suburb of Braeside v. here our son Jeffrey was born in 1968 and daughter Jody in 1970.
In December 1975 we purchased one of the most westerly lots in Cochrane at 624 Second Street West where we built a Cedar-Log bungalow.
At that time Roy and Russ Watts each purchased a Melroe Bobcat, forming Deluxe Bobcat Service. Russ and family later moved from the Cochrane area.
Jeff and Jody took all their schooling in Cochrane graduating in 1986 and 1988. Jeff was a part of the Scouting movement and Cadets, swimming, ball, student council and Youth Group. He worked at the local IGA and summers at Calaway Park. He attended U of C and Mount Royal College. After some time in Australia, Jeff joined Roy in the excavating business and formed Deluxe Bobcat & Excavating Ltd. With an array of equipment including excavators, backhoe, loaders, trucks and various bobcats they worked at many sites in Cochrane, Calgary and areas of southern Alberta.
Jody was a GGIT and Youth Group member, took swimming, piano and dance lessons. She worked summers for the Town summer camp programs. Jody attended Mount Royal College.
Jeff, Danielle, Avery and Grayson live in Cochrane. They own and operate Cochrane Coffee Traders and Roasterie at two locations in Cochrane. Jeff completed two terms on the local town council. Jody, Dave, Abby, Thomas and Marley DiCastri now reside in Alberta after a few years at various postings in British Columbia with the RCMP. Jody works for the local Recreation Department and Dave is with the serious crime unit of the Calgary RCMP.
After more than 18 years of acreage living at Pleasant View Heights and on Weedon Trail we moved back to Cochrane September of 2006.
We have been a part of Cochrane as it grew from a town of 1,200 to a population of nearly 14,000. We are as proud to be a part of this vibrant community today as we were more than 30 years ago when we chose Cochrane as a place to live and work.
