Five years ago today, Big Hill Springs Flooded

At today’s AGM, Larry Want recalled that 5 years ago this very date and time the Museum was heavily damaged by spring flooding.

Here is the story of the flood and our recovery.

This past year has been a challenge with 2 floods of the Cochrane Ranche. The Museum is put back together but we’re still working on restoring or replacing some of our exhibits. Here is a slide show that shows our progress.

Spring fundraiser has been postponed

The Provincial Health Authority has recommended events like ours not go ahead at this time. So we’re postponing the March 28th CHAPS Spring Fund Raiser . We will be in touch regarding already purchased tickets.

The Westerson Cabin

Ted Westerson talks about growing up in the cabin that now sits on the Cochrane Ranche. He grew up in Cochrane and the cabin when it sat on Cochrane’s west end.

Cochrane Lions Rodeo History

Cochrane Lions and CHAPS held a joint event at the Cochrane History Museum last night. The topic was about the history of the Cochrane Lions Rodeo which has been a local favourite since the mid-60s.

Thanks to Ted Westerson and Keith Garner for their wonderful stories of the rodeo and Cochrane.

Cochrane Lions have allowed us to copy the photos used. Ask if you’d like to take a closer look.

Sunday Puzzler Jan 20, 2019

I overheard someone ask this question at our Photo opening the other night. I never noticed the characters on this sign before nor do I know what they mean.

We’re asking all those puzzle masters out there to help us solve this one!

What are these characters?

Contacts on Twitter have provided a partial answer to our question about the language on Bob and Alice Graham’s Pharmacy sign.

CHAPS is planning on having regularly scheduled events to talk about the History of Cochrane and area. This is our first where we plan on opening up our photo archives. We have many more photos than what we’ve been showing on our social media feeds.

Plan on joining us for this free event.

Raking Prairie Wool

That was fun

And as Arlene says the Museum is the perfect setting for Christmas. She’s right, it was lovely.

We had a full house, shared stories, snacks, refreshments and enjoyed each others company. The puzzles of historic homes were fun.

Thanks to Shannon, Gayle, Larry, Ed and everyone else who setup and provided snacks.
